âš“ The Cabaoui residency The Cabaoui, nestled on the Malmousque peninsula, invites artists to dive into a creative residency dedicated to the sea and biodiversity. A space for meetings, reflection, creation, and awareness, where each resident becomes the interface between land and sea, silence and community, fisherman and scientist, to "sea-marvel" and raise awareness of ecological issues.

The Legendary Cabins of Malmousque

On the sun-drenched coast of Marseille, cradled by the sound of waves and the sea breeze, lies Malmousque—a jewel where sea and rock meet. The cabins, small 19th-century houses, were built by fishermen to store their tools and rest after long days at sea. Over time, these shelters have become havens for those seeking tranquility before the infinite horizon.

Malmousque has charmed poets, artists, and dreamers, drawn by the magic of the sea. Marcel Pagnol found inspiration there, as did Henri Salvador for his album "Chambre avec vue." Painters and musicians have captured the essence of this place, where light and sound merge with the eternal lapping of the waves.

The cabins, sculpted by sea spray and clinging to the rocks like sentinels of the sea, bear the marks of time. Their facades, whitened by sun and salt, hold the stories of those who have lived there, like a living heritage carved in stone.

However, Malmousque, and the Mediterranean as a whole, face modern challenges. Overtourism endangers its once-biodiverse marine ecosystems. Clear waters and Posidonia seagrass beds, crucial to marine balance, are threatened by pollution and human activity. Erosion, accelerated by overcrowding, weakens this natural beauty.

It is in this context that Kelly Merran, lover of water and the place, founder of MIRAA, welcomes you. Her mission: to protect this gem, ensuring the waves keep singing their unbroken melody.

The Residency

The Cabaoui is an invitation to stay fluid, like water—fluid and connected.

In the heart of the Mediterranean, a sea crossroads of civilizations, Marseille has been shaped by centuries of cultural and human exchanges. Each wave hitting its shores tells the story of people meeting, bringing with them cultures and knowledge. Today, this very basin is threatened by overtourism, pollution, and the degradation of marine life, weakening a unique natural and cultural heritage.

The Cabaoui is rooted in this heritage, becoming a place of openness and awareness, advocating for a reconnection with the sea. Here, art and engaged research come together to address ecological challenges. In the face of the complexity of these issues, art acts as a catalyst, inviting us to change perspectives. It awakens the senses, touches the body and heart, before reaching the mind, provoking both collective and individual reflection on protecting nature.

The Cabaoui, in direct connection with water, is dedicated to the love of the coastline and the sea. It is part of an awareness-raising approach on issues of marine biodiversity and interconnection between all forms of life, marine and terrestrial. This place becomes a creative space where art and commitment merge to spark awareness about the future of the Mediterranean—this shared treasure.
